| So, once again, I am resulting to updating my blog rather than doing
something important. I have a paper due tomorrow and a mechanics
test as well. I have been studying most of the weeken though, so
I guess that makes things a *bit* better. Nothing too exciting
happened to me this weekend considering everyone I know is about two
assignments away from having a Jim Jones Kool Aid party (google the
refrence if you dont get it ) On Friday night, Stu, Adriel, Kim,
Jason, Ashley and I all went to the AMC Fenway to see the new Wallace
and Gramit movie that came out. It was so funny...yay for british
humor with blatent sexual innuendo!!! After that, Jason and I had
a "lab coat" party...which basically consisted of us creating our own
mixed drinks with $0.99 soda from Shaws and our extremely limited
selection of....beverages ;) all while wearing our chem lab coats
stained with god-knows what chemcials that are probably killing us
slowly in the night...oh well . We came out with two new
drinks that were a hit with the people who tried them...Malibu Prom
Night and Naughty Creamsicle (both named by yours truely).
On Saturday night, Ashley and I just bummed around my room basically
because it had been raining the entire day (though Ashley insits that
it was barely drizzeling compared to her Florida rain ) We
went down to Best Buy and picked up the new RENT soundtrack, and we
annoyed the hell out of my suite by blasting and singing all the songs
from the first Act...I cannot wait to see that movie when it comes
out!! That brings us to tonight....I spent most of the day
spractically studying and trying to clean up the mess that I've been
living amid for the past week or so. Ashley got off work around 4
and came up and has been reading in my bed for close to 6 hours.
The most exciting thing that happened this entire weekend was that the
sun finally came out for the first time in close to a week...I had
almost forgotten what it had felt like to be in sunlight.
<sigh> It could be worse though, a bunch of my friends on my
floor are freaking out about their probability homework because
apparently their teacher is so horrible that they can't do anything
that is required of the class (their last test's final was a
54%...which, come to think of it, is quite typical of an engineering
class...grrr). Bleck....the nagging feeling to study is gradually
growing stronger and stronger in my head. I don't think I can
hold out procrastinating much longer. Ok, time to hit the books
one last time before I hit the sack. Time to get back to deriving
fucking moments.....yeah, you can look that one up too if you want to
procrastinate with me .

I know I know…its
been like 10000000000000000000000000 years since I last updated here. Since its been so long, I’m going to do a
crash course in what happened since my orgo final: orgo’s done, Phil’s happy,
went to Mexico,
had a blast, came home, moved into school.
There…now everyone is caught up!
So currently, I’m doing this instead of my mechanics homework that’s due
later today.
Things
are great now that I’m back in school!
It’s awesome to see everyone again (esp. Ashley) and all that jazz. This past was complete HELL!!! I had a midterm in physics, differential
equations, and linear algebra, a paper due in writing, and problem sets for
physics and mechanics. I don’t know how I
survived, but I’m sure it had something to do with the fact that for about 12
hrs a day I did nothing but study. But I
managed to survive it and stay above the curve, which is all that’s important J. But I got my reward in the form of a 3 day
weekend!!! By sheer coincidence, it was also Ashley and my 6 month anniversary. I can’t believe how time has flown!! Anyway, I
took her on a surprise trip up to NYC to see Rent cause she’s been obsessing about it FOREVER! Though, it would have been a surprise if
Elane hadn’t blown it 12 hrs before we left.
Ah well! The trip was fantastic,
and the show was BLOODY BRILLIANT! I had
seen it about 3 years ago, but it was so much better the second time
around. Coming back from NYC the next
day, however, was a bit of a hassle. Our
buss left the train station at 2:30 in the afternoon, but we didn’t get home
until 2:15am on Tuesday morning.
Confused as to why it to 12 hrs to get from NYC to Boston?
That’s because our bus was stuck in bum-fuck Connecticut for literally 8 hrs with, get
this….a broken windshield wiper!!! To
give you all some perspective, the time it took me to drive form NYC to Boston, I could have flown from LA to New Zealand! Ok, enough ranting about all that.
So
far this week’s been quiet with nothing really going on. But then again, I guess after 3 midterms any
week would be quiet by comparison. Namely
been doing the same old thing everyday; wake up at 6:40 for either Physics or
Linear Algebra at 8 and then do mechanics until Wednesday homework and Physics homework
until Friday. Ok, now that I’ve
procrastinated enough its time to go to writing…my only easy class. Though the only thing better than having an
easy writing class would be not having a writing class at all. There’s a reason why ENG stands for English
No Good!

| I’m posting this out of sheer need to not study anymore for my Orgo final. Not that I’ve been studying for 20 hrs a day
or anything, but I’m just so burnt out on everything having to do with school
this summer. And having soo much information
to get a hold of isn’t helping much.
Every time I look through my notes, I find 12 new things I need to have
memorized, so I memorize them which promptly displaces 15 other facts/reactions
I’ve already memorized…for all you keeping score at home that’s a net loss of 3
facts (not the direction I want to be moving in). I studied so hard for the midterm, and really
I just got lucky with everyone else doing very poorly. I just know that since everyone did poorly
they’re going to study extra hard for this one.
I’m just feeling that even though I’ve done remarkably well on
everything before this, the one remaining quiz and the final still have enough
point power to bring my grade down significantly. <Sigh> there should be some kind of law
that once you get a certain way through a course with an A- (esp. in orgo) they
should just let you keep the A-.
Ok, enough of my banter!
Things besides have been relatively good. Work is getting much easier as the rats start
to finish up their tests. I can usually
get in and out of the lab in about an hour and a half. Though things are going to quickly get more
complicated because Nina just got in a new shipment of 12 brand new rats to
begin conditioning for her next set of experiments. Another girl in the lab does logic
observations on adolescent rats so she gets to work with the cute baby ones! (And
yes…they are in fact cute ) Basically
nothing’s been really going on between work and school. I’m doing all I can to avoid people who’ve
read the new HP book cause I’ve not even opened the box it arrived in. I’m saving it for the plane ride home and
maybe to Mexico. I didn’t want it to be a distraction for my
studying and I don’t want to rush through it.
I wanna take my time and enjoy every page. I know…how odd of me not to read the entire
book in a single day! Well, believe it
or not, this post has taken the good part of an hour to write (since I was also
chatting with Adriel and Niffer online) so I must trudge to the other side of
the room and get back to studying. There’s
a mountain of paper in the middle of my room of orgo stuff that is just loves
to trip me…good thing my roommate went home for the weekend because the pile is
slowly making its way to his side of the room.
Time to break out the whip and fight it back into a manageable pile.

w00t! I'm so pumped right now! I spent the good
part of my weekend (probably 12 hrs total) studying for my Orgo Midterm
yesterday and the results came in today. Although my raw score wasn't
thrilling (65%) I managed to stay above the median grade. I managed to
stay so far above it I got an extra 30 percentage points which pulls my score
to a 95%!!!!!! I'm soo happy!! It's not like I did really well on
the test, but I did do much better then everyone else which is an
accomplishment. I think most kids are just getting really tired of school
(as am I) and are starting to succumb to the distractions of summer.
However, since I've been pretty much abandoned in Boston, I have very few distractions. Which
means I have no problem locking myself in my apartment for an entire weekend
and learning all about the organic synthesis of DDT and mustard gas (which is
apparently a powerful anticancer agent...who knew)? Ok, going to stop
with the random orgo facts now lol. See...this is what happens when
there's nobody around to say "Phil...shut up".
Well...that's pretty much been my isolate life for the most part. Work is
getting easier as the rats are finishing up their study. Nina is leaving
again for her home in Canada
because she deserves a vacation (which of course will involve her spending the
entire time writing her dissertation...figures). Which means I am once
again in charge of every single one of her experiments. Last time
this happened I had stress dreams that all the rats died and all her
experiments were ruined and she wouldn't graduate from grad school and
everything WAS DESTROYED!!!!! Yeah...just a bit of stress . Ok, well I've rambled long enough
already...and I need to study for my orgo quiz right now. Yeah I
know...no rest for the weary. BUT the good news is that I only have about
10 more days of this left and then I'M FREE!!!!!

So I am officially protesting
heat and Boston University RA’s!
Why? Because I am not allowed to
have AC in my room! For the past
semester or so, my room and I have enjoyed the glory of AC air in our rather
cramped apartment. This is, until, the
RA decided to have us take a census and saw that we had an AC unit and told us
to take it down. She claims that her “superiors” saw that we
had one and told her about it….but I doubt that since the only way you can see
our window is from the dark sketchy alley…which I doubt a BU administrator
would have any reason to walk down. ANWAY,
rather than having a full scale falling out with the BU housing department…I decided
to put my engineering skills to the test (and a bit of MacGyver tactics
too). Using only 3 cardboard boxes, a
cake pan, an 6 plastic grocery bags, and of course, a roll of duct tape, I constructed
a contraption that allows the AC unit to sit comfortably inside the room (thus
invisible from outside) but fully sealed off the window and the heat exhaust
form the AC so our room is once again enjoying AC air and the only way the RA’s
could know about it is if they came into the room….in which case the
contraption is easily collapsed! HAHAH…engineering
skills to the rescue!! The only down
side is the cake pan fills up quite quickly so we have to be careful that it doesn’t
overflow and soak the carpet.
On a happier note, I had a great Saturday
afternoon yesterday. A bunch of people
(Jason P, Jason D, Kim, Halle,
Ryan, and Adriel) from 12 C (my dorm floor last year) came down and got
together. We all met at the concert
Shell and then walked to Quincy Market (perhaps the coolest place in Boston) and grabbed some
lunch. It was great seeing everyone
again…I had forgotten what a fun group of people they all were. We were our normal noisy and slightly silly
bunch of kids all through dinner telling stories about our respective summer
jobs (my attacks from cocaine addicted rats defiantly took the cake). After lunch we all walked back to the concert
shell to watch a free concert. I don’t
remember who all was performing…but I didn’t recognize any of their names. The performers were decent, and it provided
an enjoyable show…except for the fact that it was f*cken hot as all hell out
there in the sun. Kim and I took refuge
in the shade until the performance started.
Afterwards, Jason D and I said goodbye to everyone else and we headed
back to my place. He was spending the
night so he didn’t have to get in really late back to his house (somewhere
north of Boston). We saw the movie Fantastic 4 which was ok, not a summer blockbuster, but not
horrible. After the movie, he helped me
rig up the aforementioned AC device and we crashed. That’s pretty much everything that happened this
weekend (save chores like grocery shopping and laundry). Now comes the ultimate test of my will power:
not reading the new Harry Potter book until after
my Orgo midterm a week from Monday! So
all of you crazy fanatics that have already read the entire book…please don’t refrain
from discussion the book at all with me…I’m trying to keep a virgin mind with
this book (yes…I can hear you laughing cause I said virgin ) Time to get back to my orgo studying so I don’t
fail another quiz!!
